Chris' '90 Toyota Celica
All-Trac Turbo
(aka "The
Shuttle") Transmission Mods - TWM Short-Throw Shifter |
Updated: September 25, 2017 |
Since I had previous installed a new 1992-1993 Celica shifter assembly, I had to get the TWM shifter for this later model shifter. The gear-to-gear throw is now a very sweet 3". I had previously bought a C's shifter, but it's now FOR SALE because it is made for a RHD car.
I never took any photos of the TWM shifter before installing it. But, it shares nearly identical dimensions with the C's shifter; however, the TWM shifter is not bent over to the right as is the C's shifter.
The following photos are of the stock 92-93 shifter (bottom) next to the upgraded C's shifter (top). That's no optical illusion in the second photos. Yes, the C's shifter is slightly positioned to the right, away from the LHD driver.
Here are photos of both the stock and new shifter (right). As you can tell, the new shifter has a higher pivot point which shortens the throw even with a longer shift-lever. The resulting throw is five inches, which is one inch more than the stock shifters in my 2000 Celica GT-S and my former 1995 Lexus SC300. Perhaps, I'll modify this shifter to a shorter throw at some point in the future. But, at this point, I'm enjoying the feel and action of this new shifter.
Here's the shifter, as installed and run through the gears.
