(aka "The Shuttle") Autronic SMC Installation Details - Wiring |
Igniter and Coil Wiring. Always looking for ways to improve my existing ignition system, I've decided to ditch the Crane Hi-6R and PS92 coil in favor of a twin-coil waste-spark setup. This will eliminate the use of the distributor cap and rotor in the ignition system as the twin-coil setup fires two cylinders simultaneously, cylinders 1 & 4 and 2 & 3, respectively. The parts necessary for this conversion include a late-model Mitsubishi coil-pack from a Lancer EVO and Eclipse Turbo, and two Bosch igniters. A local fabrication shop has mounted the coil-pack onto the stock strut-brace and the bar is now out being powder-coated. The coil-pack is mounted in a location just above and behind the distributor car which will allow me to easily unplug the spark-plug wires from the distributor cap and insert them into the coil-pack. Once again, easy and simple is the key. With a second coil comes the need for a second igniter which I have ordered and received from Ray Hall Turbocharging in Australia. I've also had a custom aluminum mount fabricated, also out at the powder-coaters. It'll affix to the firewall in the engine compartment upon which both igniters will be secured.
