Chris' '90 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo (aka "The Shuttle")
Twin-Coil Waste-Spark Ignition
Updated: September 25, 2017

Always looking for ways to improve my existing ignition system, I've decided to ditch the Crane Hi-6R and PS92 coil in favor of a twin-coil waste-spark setup.  This will eliminate the use of the distributor cap and rotor in the ignition system as the two-coil setup uses each coil to fire two cylinders simultaneously, cylinders 1 & 4 and 2 & 3, respectively.  The coil I'm using is a stock late-model Mitsubishi coil from a Lancer EVO and Eclipse Turbo.  I welded the Mitsu coil-pack's bracket onto the stock strut-brace in a location just above and behind the distributor.   As you can see in the photos, this allowed me to simply unplug the spark-plug wires from the distributor cap and insert them into the coil-pack.   Cool, no?   Once again, easy and simple is the key.

Along with two coils comes the need for two igniters.  So, I fabbed-up a mount from upon which I mounted both igniters to the firewall in the right-rear corner of the engine compartment.  This required running another wire from the Autronic SMC to the second for use in firing the second igniter.

As you can see in the photos, I've had the strut brace and igniter mount powder-coated the same bright blue which exists on other random bits under the hood.

And, since I no longer use the traditional distributor cap or rotor, I have one of these trick aluminum relacement caps from Alamo Autosports.
