Background. Before making any modifications, I went to visit Corky Bell, of Bell Engineering Group, Inc. (BEGI) in San Antonio, Texas. At his shop, we discussed Project MR2 and turbo engineering in general for nearly ninety minutes. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him, and, I quickly realized his many years of experience in the automotive performance world had bestowed him with a vast amount of knowledge. While I have forgotten the specifics of our conversation, I'll never forget the advice he gave me: instrument everything. Having previously worked in the engineering, electronics, and test equipment worlds, this advice rang true to me. As a result, I have fitted various gauges to The Shuttle to keep an eye on critically important systems. These gauges mesh with my approach to never take for granted or second-guess the performance of certain engine components.

I also use an Autronic "Model A" Exhaust Gas Analyzer in conjunction with a Bosch 4-wire, wide-band, temperature-compensated o2 sensor. This analyzer displays the true air/fuel ratio under all boost and rpm conditions. I use this analyzer to tune the Autronic EMS, and do not run the car all the time with this analyzer in place.
