Chris' '90 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo (aka "The Shuttle")
Dash-top Instrumentation

The process of designing and building this dash-top five-gauge pod is on-going..  Stay tuned for photos.

Gauge Make & Model Function & Purpose
Auto-Meter 5" Cobalt Tach w/blue shift light The factory tack is off by about 200 rpms.  Plus, I need a shift light.

Water Temperature

The Shuttle's 3S-GTE utilizes the stock thermostat which appears to regulate engine temps to 95-98 Deg C, according to the Autronic EMS.  And although the factory engine temp gauge continues to function properly, I am adding this gauge for more accurate readings.

Oil Pressure

While the factory idiot light functions responsibly, it merely illuminates a lamp in the dash when oil pressure drops below 7 psi.  Lose oil pressure on a high rpm run, and get ready for a spun rod bearing.  This gauge will complement the idiot light for a real-time display of oil pressure.

Oil Temperature

Turbocharged engines create a tremendous amount of heat.  And the 3S-GTE uses small nozzles within the crankcase to cool the pistons by squirting oil onto their bottom sides, in and around the wrist-pin.  Since, I plan to add an oil cooler at the same time I relocate the oil filter, it will be interesting to learn the temps of the oil returning to the engine from the cooler.  This is a good thing.

Trans Temperature

Toyota fits a small transmission cooler on the All-Trac, however, I plan to replace this cooler with an aftermarket cooler in an effort to help prevent overheating of the transmission.   This, too, is a good thing.

Voltmeter

Like the oil pressure idiot light, the alt light does not provide the information necessary regarding the general health and well-being of the electrical and charging system.
