Chris' '90 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo (aka "The Shuttle")
Electrical System Mods - Central Ground System

Here's a run-down on the central-earth ground system I've created for The Shuttle.

I fabricated a small mount for the copper plate using a 1" x 3" steel bar which I drilled so that it bolts the alternator mount. I also drilled and tapped this steel bar on which to secure the copper plate.  The copper plate was drilled and tapped to 8-32 machine screws which are used to secure the individual wires (8 gauge stereo power cables) which run to the following components / locations listed below.  After cutting each cable to fit, I soldered a ring terminal to both ends of each 8 gauge cable.  And finally, I ran a 2 gauge cable from the copper plate to the ground distribution point located under the rear seat.  This distribution point is further connected to the battery via more 2 gauge cable, and also provides a few 8 gauge wires which provide additional grounding to the metal chassis and factory ground points located under the dash. 

Total cost was about $50 for the various cables, gold-plated lugs, and copper plate. No crimp connections for me.  Rather, all cables are soldered for long-lasting and reliable electrical continuity.  And, for those who may be wondering how I solder 8 and especially 2 gauge wire, you'll be happy to know that a plumber's propane torch, set to a very small flame, of course, works quite well.
