My 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S Mods - Alpine amps and JL 10" Subwoofer
The Problem: The
factory stereo lacks sufficient volume
to be heard clearly and loudly
from, say, 50 yards away. ;-)
The Solution: A pair of Alpine amps and a JL 10" subwoofer Cost: $575, installed. Actually, Home Entertainment wired-up the amps, and I created the mounting brackets for the JL 10" sub enclosure. Summary: The stereo now sounds almost tolerable. |
Home Entertainment (now Tweeter) installed a new Clifford alarm, and sold me two Alpine amps and a 10" JL Audio boxed sub. The first amp, an Alpine MRVF303 (30Wx4) drives power to the eight factory speakers; the second is an Alpine MRV100M (100Wx1) to power the sub. The stereo now sounds very good and clear, if not somewhat louder than before. Perhaps by Summer 2000, I'll continue upgrading the system by upgrading the primary amp from a 30x4 to 50x4, replacing the head unit, and adding a CD changer.

I
am, however, up in the air on how to permanently mount the primary
amp. This is the amp which is currently affixed to the carpet
with Velcro. Yeah, it's a bit crude, if not effective. I
had considered mounting this amp to an aluminum plate on the right
side of the hatch area, but I have yet to determine a practical
manner in which to securely mount the aluminum plate. If you
figure this out, please let me know. Right now, I don't
tote much other than an occasional bag or two of groceries in the
back of the car, so this amp is not in the way.
